Meet the Board
Welcome to all Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware hypertensionologists joining the American Society of Hypertension Delaware Valley Chapter (ASHDV). The ASHDV is beginning its second year and is currently applying for papers of incorporation and tax exempt status. The spring of 2006 was marked by two educational programs: May 3, 2006 in Philadelphia, PA and June 2, 2006, in Scranton, PA.
Four meetings of ASHDV Board of Directors were held in the 2005 - 2006 academic year in Center City Philadelphia, the most recent being an “open meeting” of the Board of Directors that attracted new members from practicing physicians, residents in training, and students.
The leadership of the national ASH organization has identified several pathways by which ASHDV regional chapter membership can reach out to attract new members. The ASHDV membership will be recognized by leading the region in advancing education on hypertension diagnosis and management in the community. The ASH members should be available to lead their respective communities by promoting and participating in hypertension education, diagnosis, and management programs. The membership should:

1. Increase awareness of hypertension and related cardiovascular diseases among physicians and community members.This coming 2006 – 2007 year shall have three major objectives:
2. Promote wide-spread local dissemination of current hypertension information facilitating diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases and appropriate clinical treatment strategies.
3. Provide regional educational opportunities regarding current research and clinical treatment programs for local primary care physicians as well as other physicians and healthcare professionals.
4. Promote the utilization of designated specialists in clinical hypertension.
5. Serve as advocates with local organizations, third-party payers, and government leadership.
6. Provide local patient populations especially those minorities with hypertension and high-risk factors with current information and programs to increase awareness of hypertension and cardiovascular risk factors.
7. Identify funding sources for hypertension research and education for trainees including students and residents.
8. Promote active participation in the ASHDV chapter educational meetings, scientific research.
9. Actively recruit new members into the local ASHDV chapter and the national ASH organization.
1. Regional hypertension screening programs at local healthcare organizations including hospitals, medical centers, and community centers.The dates for hypertension screening at the local level, ASHDV Board of Directors next meeting, and the spring 2007 hypertension continuing medical education programs, will be announced shortly in the ASHDV newsletter and on our website at www.ashdv.org.
2. Educational programs offering physician and nurse continuing medical education credits in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of hypertension with an emphasis on new clinical research information and including case presentations targeted for the community practitioners, physicians, CRNPs, PAs, and medical assistants.
3. Increase the membership of practicing hypertensionologists including cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, clinical pharmacologists, general internists, nurses, physician assistants, medical assistants, healthcare administrators, pharmaceutical industry representatives, third-party insurance representatives, etc. possessing a quality interest and desire to lead in their hypertensive community.
